KOFIC & CNC 'Han-Fre Film Academy' Program Initiative
Emerging creators from Korea and France explored the video production technology of a Korean company and discussed the development of the film industry.
Content specialist Dexter Studio announced on the 26th that the Korea Film Council (KOFIC) and the French National Center for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC) visited its headquarters. The meeting was arranged as part of the '2024 ROK-France Film Academy in Korea' activities organized by KOFIC and CNC.
According to KOFIC's '2023 Korean Film Industry Report,' France ranked 5th in global box office revenue in 2023 with $1.559 billion (approximately 2.1436 trillion KRW), which is 25% higher than Korea's 8th place with $1.24 billion. France was ranked 6th in 2022 and 7th in 2023 as a major importer of Korean films. Hosting the Cannes Film Festival, one of the world's top three film festivals, France is also recognized as a traditional cultural powerhouse in Europe.
Dominique Boutonna, President of CNC, explained the exchange process, saying, "France is a country very interested in Korean films and selected Korea as a key partner in the film sector in 2022." He added, "In 2023, we also held a signing ceremony for the film academy agreement with KOFIC."
A KOFIC official explained the reason for the visit, stating, "We wanted to directly showcase Dexter, which is capable of multiple tasks including VFX, DI, and sound, to the next generation of filmmakers." They emphasized, "Going forward, the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) and the French National Film School will organize beneficial programs to nurture emerging talents, and both countries will cooperate to promote the development of the film industry."
Kim Hye-jin, Director at Dexter Studio, responded, "It was a very valuable time to introduce our company to creators from Korea and France." She said, "Our country is a practical leader in the Asian film industry and a K-content producing nation attracting global attention. We hope that studying the different film production methods created in each environment will promote IP exchange between the two countries."
