Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, visited Kim Il Sung Military University on the 25th, the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the Anti-Japanese Partisan (Anti-Japanese Guerrilla) Korean People's Revolutionary Army, to encourage strengthening combat capabilities. On the same day, he also observed the inspection firing test of a new 240mm multiple rocket launcher (the North Korean term for a multiple rocket launcher) shell aimed at the Seoul metropolitan area.

North Korea's Korean Central News Agency reported on the 26th, "Comrade Kim Jong Un made a congratulatory visit to Kim Il Sung Military University, the highest institution of military education in our country." Kim Il Sung Military University is a military school for retraining officers, and it is known that Chairman Kim also studied artillery there after studying abroad in Switzerland.

In his commemorative speech, Chairman Kim explained, "On this significant day marking the birth of Korea's first armed force, I visited Kim Il Sung Military University, the military bastion and reliable original training ground for cultivating core cadres of our army, the eldest son of the nation."

He continued, "The main mission of this university is to nurture more reliable military commanders," adding that the more faithfully the university fulfills its responsibilities, the more the combat power of our army will be strengthened in every way, and correspondingly, the anxiety and fear of the enemies will increase.

During the visit, senior military officials including Park Jong Cheon, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Party, Kang Sun Nam, Minister of National Defense, and Ri Yong Gil, Chief of the General Staff, accompanied Chairman Kim.

The news agency also reported that Chairman Kim observed the inspection firing test of 240mm multiple rocket launcher shells produced by the newly established Defense Industry Enterprise under the Second Economic Committee.

The Second Economic Committee is the agency overseeing North Korea's military economy, managing planning, production, and trade of military products.

The agency explained, "Through the inspection firing test, the flight characteristics, accuracy, and concentration indicators of the multiple rocket launcher shells produced by the modernized Defense Industry Enterprise were evaluated as highly satisfactory."

The 240mm multiple rocket launcher is a weapon frequently mentioned when North Korea threatens to turn Seoul into a 'sea of fire,' targeting the metropolitan area. In February, North Korea also announced the successful test launch of a new 240mm multiple rocket launcher shell equipped with guidance capabilities.

Chairman Kim affirmed, "the 240mm multiple rocket launcher weapon system, which incorporates new technology, will bring about a strategic change in strengthening our army's artillery capabilities," the news agency reported.
