Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is making swift efforts to expedite the groundbreaking of the 'Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex' to be established in the I-dong and Namsa-eup areas.

On the 25th, Yongin City announced on the 26th that it held a meeting of the 'Yongin National Industrial Complex Permit Support Task Force (TF)' at City Hall. The TF team, formed to minimize administrative procedures and shorten consultation periods for the industrial complex development, is led by Deputy Mayor Hwang Jun-gi and includes representatives from 15 related departments.

At the meeting, the TF team reviewed the progress and current issues in various fields such as roads and traffic, urban planning, industrial complex planning, environment, and water supply and sewage to ensure swift procedures and consultations following the industrial complex approval application.

Currently, the industrial complex project is at the stage where the project implementer, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), has submitted the national industrial complex plan approval application to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Plan approval is expected as early as the first half of next year. The city plans to focus its administrative efforts to support the groundbreaking of the industrial complex in 2026 so that Samsung Electronics' first production line (Fab) can begin trial operations by 2030.

Deputy Mayor Hwang said, "With active cooperation in national policy projects as a premise, please carefully present the city's position in each field," and ordered, "We will respond with an open attitude during the consultation process to ensure the national industrial complex is established without any setbacks."

The city has also begun the process of gathering residents' opinions in earnest. Since the 22nd, a public inspection for collecting opinions on the industrial complex project recognition has been underway. This public inspection will continue until the 22nd of next month. Related documents can be viewed at the City Hall Comprehensive Civil Service Consultation Desk and the I-dong and Namsa-eup Administrative Welfare Centers.

On the 2nd of next month, LH will also hold a joint briefing session for residents and other stakeholders at the I-dong Administrative Welfare Center regarding the project. During the briefing, LH plans to explain the industrial complex plan, the draft environmental and climate change impact assessment, the traffic impact assessment, and the disaster impact assessment.
