82 High-Ranking Officials Disclose Assets
Lee Won-mo, Former Presidential Office Personnel Secretary, Tops with 38.5 Billion Won
Yoo Cheol-hwan, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, reported assets worth 2,920,170,000 KRW, and Cho Tae-yeol, Minister of Foreign Affairs, reported assets worth 2,622,130,000 KRW.
The Government Official Ethics Committee published the "April High-ranking Officials' Interim Asset Disclosure Data" in the official gazette on the 26th. This month's disclosure includes a total of 82 individuals with status changes from January 2 to February 1 this year, including 14 new appointees, 23 promotions, and 37 retirements.
Among the current officials disclosed this time, the highest reported assets belong to Choi Bo-geun, Director of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, who declared a total of 8,762,260,000 KRW, including land in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, forest land in Yongin, and an apartment in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, jointly owned with his spouse.
The second highest asset holder among current officials is Jeong Shin, former Director of Chonnam National University Hospital, who reported a total of 5,859,560,000 KRW, including forest land in Haenam-gun, Jeonnam, and an apartment in Gwangju.
Ha Il-su, Chairman of the Korea International Health and Medical Foundation at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, ranked third among current officials with assets worth 5,401,300,000 KRW.
Chairman Yoo of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission reported 2,920,170,000 KRW, Minister Cho of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported 2,622,130,000 KRW, and Jeong In-gyo, Head of the Trade Negotiation Headquarters at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, reported 4,109,890,000 KRW.
Chairman Yoo owns an apartment in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul (1,925,000,000 KRW) and land in Dangjin, Chungnam (183,000,000 KRW) under his name. His spouse reported ownership of an officetel in Seocho-gu (152,000,000 KRW), a jeonse right on an apartment in Bangbae-dong (1,207,000,000 KRW), and a dormitory in Huam-dong, Yongsan-gu (350,000,000 KRW, approximately 16 pyeong). Combined debts for both are reported at 1,340,000,000 KRW.
Park Sang-wook, Senior Secretary for Science and Technology at the Presidential Office, reported assets worth 2,385,690,000 KRW. Park and his spouse jointly own an apartment in Jamwon-dong, Seocho-gu (1,684,000,000 KRW), and their deposits total 640,000,000 KRW. They have completed the sale of all 30,000 shares (worth approximately 15,000,000 KRW) of PMD Academy, an unlisted stock.
Hong Jong-gi, Chief of the Civil Affairs Office at the Prime Minister's Office, reported 2,803,280,000 KRW. His spouse owns 3,000 shares of unlisted stock in Curiously.
Choi Ji-hyun, Personnel Secretary at the Presidential Office, reported a total of 4,024,000,000 KRW, and Jeon Seon-young, Secretary for Public Sympathy at the Presidential Office, reported 3,300,000,000 KRW. Secretary Choi, who previously served as deputy spokesperson, was newly appointed as Personnel Secretary in December last year. He reported ownership of an apartment worth 1,970,000,000 KRW in Seocho-gu, Seoul, with his spouse. His spouse owns a jeonse right on an apartment in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and a building in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, totaling 2,750,000,000 KRW in property.
Among retirees, Lee Won-mo, former Personnel Secretary at the Presidential Office who retired to run in the April 10 general election, reported the highest assets at 38,575,480,000 KRW. The largest portion of his assets was stocks owned by his wife, valued at 27,179,000,000 KRW.
Lee's wife, a child of the chairman of a large oriental medicine hospital-related foundation, reported 15,316 shares of SK Hynix listed stock, 20,000 shares of unlisted Green Premium Pharmaceutical, and 20,000 shares of JSD One. The previously held 40,000 shares of Jaseng Bio (worth approximately 7,759,000,000 KRW) became zero due to business closure. Lee owns a pre-sale right for an apartment in Yongsan-gu worth about 1 billion KRW, a commercial building in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu owned by his wife, and deposits totaling 5.5 billion KRW held jointly by the couple.
The second highest among retirees is Seok Dong-hyun, former Secretary General of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, with 8,991,550,000 KRW, followed by Jeong Yong-sik, former Director of Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, with 7,619,200,000 KRW.
Joo Jin-woo, former Legal Secretary who was elected in this general election, reported 7,048,000,000 KRW. He owns land worth approximately 2,270,500,000 KRW in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, among other locations. Jang Sung-min, former Future Strategy Planning Officer, reported 4,879,000,000 KRW.
