A Man in His 50s Caught for 'Sneaking' a 30 Million Won Money Bag on the Subway

A man in his 50s who took a travel bag left on the subway by a foreign tourist and ran away was caught by the police. It was confirmed that the bag contained about 30 million won.


The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Subway Police Unit announced on the 26th that they arrested Mr. A on charges of embezzlement of lost property.

The police began an investigation after receiving a report from Japanese tourist Mr. B on the 15th that he lost a travel bag containing 30 million won in cash and 507,000 yen. After analyzing CCTV footage from about 30 locations on Subway Line 1, it was captured that Mr. B left the travel bag at Gwangwoon University Station in Nowon-gu, Seoul, and Mr. A took the bag and got off at Yangju Station in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do.

After tracking Mr. A’s movements, the police identified him and seized a total of 34.5 million won from him just one day after the report was filed. It was confirmed that Mr. A cut the lock attached to Mr. B’s bag and took the cash.


A police official said, "If you find lost or misplaced items on the train, please make sure to submit them to the police station, report via 112, or leave them at the station office."
