Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 25th that it has been selected as an excellent institution for three consecutive years in the '2024 (2023 performance) Government Joint Evaluation' quantitative assessment conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Gwangju achieved 95.12% of its target, ranking 3rd among special and metropolitan cities nationwide, following Sejong City (96.4%) and Ulsan City (95.18%).
The Government Joint Evaluation is a comprehensive evaluation system conducted annually by the Minister of the Interior and Safety jointly with heads of central administrative agencies, assessing the performance of delegated national tasks, national subsidy projects, and major national policy implementations carried out by 17 cities and provinces.
This evaluation was conducted on a total of 100 indicators, including 82 quantitative indicators assessing target achievement and 18 qualitative indicators evaluating best practices.
Gwangju achieved the targets for 78 out of 82 quantitative indicators related to regional economy, safety and welfare, local autonomy, and proactive administration, demonstrating a high performance rate of 95.12%. Additionally, three cases were selected as best practices in the qualitative evaluation field assessing excellent local government policies.
The best practices in the qualitative evaluation include ▲ Strengthening cooperation in the Moonlight Alliance for mutual development among local governments and resolving conflicts between Gwangju and neighboring cities and counties ▲ The digital innovation triangular community (administration~private sector~public) connected through the cloud-based IT ▲ Gwangju proposed by youth and jointly implemented by public and private sectors, among three cases.
Bae Il-kwon, Director of Planning and Coordination Office, said, “Achieving excellent results for three consecutive years is a meaningful outcome recognizing the administrative capabilities in major sectors of city governance,” and added, “We will continue to actively discover and provide performance-centered administrative services that citizens can feel.”
