Received 18.2 Billion KRW in National Funding for Rural Development
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs at the Government Sejong Convention Center in Sejong City on the 25th, securing 18.2 billion KRW in national funding over five years starting this year.
The Rural Agreement is a system in which the government and city/county governments pledge cooperation to implement rural spatial planning in rural areas. Changwon Special City was selected last year through the Rural Agreement public contest process and plans to promote various projects for balanced rural development with the goal of creating the 365 Living Zone in the Changwon Western Rural Living Area. The 365 Living Zone means guaranteeing basic living services such as health and childcare within 30 minutes, complex services such as culture, education, and medical care within 60 minutes, and establishing an emergency response system within 5 minutes.
Through this agreement, a total project cost of 27.7 billion KRW will be invested over five years from 2024 to 2028. Major projects include ▲ Naeseo-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project (16 billion KRW) ▲ Jinjeon-myeon Basic Living Hub Creation Project Phases 1 and 2 (6 billion KRW) ▲ Jinbuk-myeon Basic Living Hub Creation Project Phase 2 (2 billion KRW). The projects will be implemented step-by-step, starting with the establishment of basic plans for the Naeseo-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project (2024?2028) and the Jinjeon-myeon Basic Living Hub Creation Project (2024?2028), which are scheduled to commence this year.
This project is expected to improve the residential conditions and quality of life for residents in the Changwon Western Rural Living Area, which is relatively weak in terms of living service SOC function facilities and basic living infrastructure.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “This Rural Agreement is the first step toward creating a livable rural area and a great opportunity to solve the continuously occurring rural problems,” adding, “We will continue to pay attention and provide support for the new future of rural areas.”
