Lee Woo-cheong, a member of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council (People Power Party·Gimcheon), proposed an amendment to the ordinance aimed at preventing fires in electric vehicle charging facilities.

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council announced on the 25th that Representative Lee has introduced the "Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on the Promotion of Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Distribution and Utilization in Gyeongsangbuk-do," which provides a basis for encouraging the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities and dedicated parking zones above ground and for installing safety enhancement facilities.

Recommendation to Install Electric Vehicle Fire Prevention Charging Facilities Above Ground... Lee Woo-cheong, Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly Member, Introduces Ordinance Bill as Representative Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Member Lee Woo-cheong

Recently, the distribution of electric vehicles has significantly increased due to changes in the automobile market, but the number of electric vehicle fires has also risen with the increase in the number of vehicles. In particular, there have been many cases of fire accidents occurring while charging or parked, and if an electric vehicle fire occurs in an underground parking lot, it is difficult to extinguish, raising concerns about serious secondary damage.

This ordinance amendment aims to prevent electric vehicle fires and secondary damage by recommending the above-ground installation of environmentally friendly vehicle charging facilities and dedicated parking zones, as well as the installation of safety enhancement facilities such as thermal imaging cameras and flame detection sensors.

Representative Lee said, "Although the distribution of environmentally friendly vehicles is increasing and the installation of charging facilities has become mandatory, if charging facilities are installed in enclosed underground parking lots, there is a risk of spreading to a large-scale fire. This ordinance amendment is intended to establish institutional grounds to alleviate such concerns and is expected to contribute to preventing damage caused by electric vehicle fires."
