As the first participant, Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo City, held a sign that read "The 34-year wish of Mokpo citizens, the medical school must be at Mokpo National University," posted it on social network services (SNS), and appealed for the participation of many citizens.
Mayor Park said, "Mokpo City has continuously made efforts for 34 years to attract a College of Medicine and a university hospital to Mokpo National University, a regional base university, to improve the poor medical conditions in the western region of Jeollanam-do. Public healthcare should prioritize public interest over market economy logic, and to secure the golden time and protect the right to life of residents in the western region of Jeollanam-do, where access to medical institutions is weak, it is essential to establish a College of Medicine at Mokpo National University."
Mayor Park Hong-ryul nominated Moon Cha-bok, Chairman of the Mokpo City Council, and Song Ha-cheol, President of Mokpo National University, as the next participants.
