On the 21st, the Uiryeongcheon Area... Significant Promotion Effect for the Year of Visiting Uiryeong
Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 25th that it successfully held the 1st Uiryeong Honguijanggun National Freshwater Fishing Competition in the Uiryeongcheon area as a side event of the 49th Honguijanggun Festival.
The competition, held on the 21st, attracted about 500 fishing enthusiasts from across the country, who sat along both sides of the Uiryeongcheon River casting their fishing rods, creating a spectacular scene alongside the azaleas blooming by the river.

As a result of the competition, Mr. Park Joon-tae from Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk, who caught a 38.5 cm fish, won first place, receiving a golden trophy and fishing gear worth approximately 7 million KRW along with 3 don of gold. Second place went to Mr. Kim Eun, who caught a 35.5 cm fish and received a golden trophy and fishing gear worth about 5 million KRW along with 2 don of gold. Third place was awarded to Mr. Choi Hong-ryeol, who caught a 28.2 cm fish and also received a golden trophy and fishing gear worth about 3 million KRW along with 1 don of gold.
Additionally, participants placing 4th to 20th received local specialties, fishing gear, and household items, while lucky draw prizes included stylers, dryers, TVs, and Uiryeong Love gift certificates, providing a variety of prizes to the participants.
The county sees the inaugural competition as a great help in promoting Uiryeong-gun and its pristine environment to fishing enthusiasts nationwide. Notably, about 200 participants arrived a day early to stay overnight, and after the event, many purchased local specialties such as manggae tteok and watermelon, significantly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
County Governor Oh Tae-wan said, “Through a change in perspective, we achieved the effect of attracting visitors from all over the country and promoting Uiryeong. We will improve on this year’s shortcomings and develop the event into a festival that gains word-of-mouth popularity among anglers.”
