KRW 2.2526 Trillion Scale... Financial Contracts Must Be Signed by End of November for Final Enforcement
Hanwha Aerospace has begun the sequential execution of the Framework Contract signed in 2022 with the new Polish government, which was launched in December last year. This is the first contract signed by a domestic company after the inauguration of the new Polish government, confirming trust for defense cooperation.
Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 25th that it has signed the '2nd Executive Contract' worth approximately KRW 2.2526 trillion (USD 1.644 billion) with the Polish Armaments Agency to supply 72 launchers of the Chunmoo system along with guided missiles with ranges of 80 km (CGR-80) and 290 km (CTM-290), respectively. This contract will take effect only after a separate financial agreement is concluded by the end of November this year with government support.
On the 25th, at the Hanwha Aerospace 3 Plant in Changwon, Gyeongnam, Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, and Artur Koptel, head of the Polish Military Procurement Office, signed the Cheonmu supply contract in the presence of Sung Il, Director of the Defense Power Resources Management Office of the Ministry of National Defense, and Paweł Bejda, Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland. Also in attendance were Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon, Seong Il, Director of the Defense Ministry's Power Resource Management Office, Paweł Wajda, Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland, and Marcin Kulaszek, Deputy Minister of State Assets. Prior to this, a successful firing test of the 290 km range guided missile from the Polish-type Chunmoo launcher was conducted at the ADD Anheung Test Site the day before.
With this contract, Hanwha Aerospace secured 152 K9 self-propelled howitzers and 72 Chunmoo launchers as the 2nd contract volume, in addition to the 1st Executive Contract (212 K9 self-propelled howitzers and 218 Chunmoo units). However, the 2nd Executive Contract will become effective only if separate financial agreements between the authorities are signed by June and November of this year, respectively. Earlier, the National Assembly passed an amendment to the Export-Import Bank Act in February to increase the export finance support limit.
Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, said, “This 2nd contract was made on the premise of financial support under the firm trust between our government and the new Polish government. We will do our best to contribute to Poland’s security and ensure that defense industry becomes a future growth engine for both countries.”
