A woman in her 20s who stole coupon sheets and stamps for regular customers at a cafe to get free coffee was fined more than 20 times the value of the coffee.
On the 25th, Judge Moon Jong-cheol of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 7 announced that A (29, female), who was indicted on charges of theft and fraud, was sentenced to a fine of 2 million won.
A was charged with secretly stealing 103 coupon sheets and stamps from the counter of a cafe in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, between March and April of last year. At that time, the cafe offered one free Americano coffee and a macaron to regular customers who presented a coupon with 10 stamps.
A stamped 10 stamps herself on 23 of the stolen coupon sheets and visited the cafe seven times, receiving free coffee and macarons worth about 80,000 won.
The court stated, "Based on the suspect interrogation records by the police and evidence such as the cafe's closed-circuit television (CCTV), guilt is recognized," and added, "If the fine is not paid, the defendant will be detained in a labor camp for 20 days, calculated at 100,000 won per day."
