Boryeong City in Chungnam clarified regarding the illegal installation of Korea Wheel's smart farm, stating, "The local government has never made any statements indicating that there were no issues with the permits."
On the 25th, the city issued a statement saying, "(Korea Wheel) has been constructing and using the smart farm facility without obtaining building permits since 2019," and added, "The city issued a demolition order for the violating structure in March 2022."
It further stated, "Korea Wheel appealed the city's demolition order by filing an administrative appeal with Chungnam Province, but it was dismissed in September of the same year, and an administrative lawsuit is currently ongoing."
Earlier, a Korea Wheel company official said on the 21st, "In August 2019, when the smart farm was established, local government and city hall officials visited the smart farm facility, highly praised its excellence, and encouraged us." In response, the city stated, "Korea Wheel claims that the city said no permit process was necessary, but they have not disclosed who said it, when, or the details of the conversation."
A Korea Wheel company official said, "On April 18, 2020, the mayor of Boryeong, along with Chungnam Governor (then Governor Yang Seung-jo) and 18 provincial officials, visited the company," and added, "After the governor's party left first, the chairman asked the mayor if there were any legal issues such as permits, and the mayor said there were no particular problems."
