On the 24th, the Hadong Police Station in Gyeongnam reported that on February 27th around 9 p.m., a first-year high school student, Ms. A, discovered cash including 10,000-won and 50,000-won bills lying on the ground in an alley in Hadong-gun, Gyeongnam, and reported it. At first, Ms. A was unsure what to do when she found the bundle of cash, but soon took a photo of the money on the ground with her cellphone. Then she squatted down and began picking up the fallen bills one by one.

After collecting all the cash, Ms. A immediately went to a nearby police station to hand it over. Upon receiving the lost property report, the police analyzed nearby CCTV footage in connection with the control center and confirmed that a man, Mr. B, dropped a total of 1,220,000 won in cash while riding a bicycle. The video footage shows the bundle of cash falling out of Mr. B’s pants pocket onto the ground as he was riding his bicycle. However, Mr. B did not notice and continued riding away.

The police identified Mr. B’s movements based on his description and found his bicycle parked on the street. They returned the entire 1,220,000 won that Mr. B had dropped. At that time, Mr. B was still unaware that he had lost the money. When asked why she returned the money, Ms. A said, "People have a conscience. Even though no one was around, I thought I would regret it if I used that money." It is reported that Mr. B later expressed his gratitude by giving Ms. A a reward.
Meanwhile, if someone finds and does not report another person's lost property found on the street, they may be subject to up to one year imprisonment, a fine of up to 3 million won, or a penalty for embezzlement of lost property.
