The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) will hold a webinar on the 26th titled "Key Points of the US-Japan Summit and Implications for Korean Companies."
This webinar will analyze the economic and industrial agenda of the joint statement from the US-Japan summit held on April 10, and review the key points that Korean companies should focus on regarding the three agreements on advanced technology, decarbonization, and economic security. Speakers include Atsushi Ijuin, Senior Researcher at the Japan Center for Economic Research (JCER), a leading Japanese think tank, and Sangjun Park, Professor at Waseda University International Academy.
The webinar will examine how strengthened cooperation between US and Japanese companies will impact Korea’s future industries by sector. Japan has agreed to participate in technology exchanges with AUKUS, the security pact between the US, UK, and Australia, raising expectations for enhanced US-Japan collaboration in advanced technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, quantum technology, biotechnology, and robotics. In the decarbonization sector, the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Japan’s Green Transformation (GX) strategy have been linked to establish systems that facilitate mutual investment benefits for companies from both countries. Accordingly, the webinar will also explore strategic responses Korean companies should consider to benefit from the US-Japan cooperative framework.
The discussion will also cover how US-Japan talks on supply chains, including the stable supply of critical materials like semiconductors and secondary batteries, as well as joint production of defense parts and equipment, could present opportunities for Korean companies.
Kim Samsik, Head of KOTRA’s Japan Regional Headquarters, said, "The joint declaration from the US-Japan summit contains close cooperation agendas in future industries such as advanced technology and decarbonization. We hope this webinar will provide an opportunity to assess the impact of strengthened US-Japan cooperation on Korean companies and to explore strategic responses."
