Gijang miyeok (seaweed) and dasima (kelp), which have been known for their exquisite taste and were once served on the royal table, are farmed in the clean waters off Gijang where the vertical movement of tides and nutrient circulation are active. They are recognized as excellent foods with strong antioxidant and immune functions, especially beneficial for postpartum recovery.

The Miyeok Dasima Festival is a representative local food festival promoting the excellence of Gijang miyeok and dasima. It has been held annually since 2010 but was suspended in 2019 due to the spread of COVID-19. This year, it is being held again after five years.

This year’s festival features programs that everyone from young to old can directly experience and enjoy, including ▲Gijang Miyeok Dasima Singing Contest ▲Hands-on fresh seaweed harvesting experience ▲Surprise auctions of miyeok and dasima ▲Tasting of miyeok and dasima dishes ▲Popular singer congratulatory performances ▲Fireworks show, and more.

Lee Jeong-dong, chairman of the Miyeok Dasima Festival Promotion Committee, said, “Since this festival is being held for the first time in five years, we have prepared more diverse experiences, food, and attractions than ever before with gratitude to the many tourists who always remember and visit Gijang-gun. We hope many people visit the Miyeok Dasima Festival held on a warm spring day to directly experience and enjoy the true value of Gijang’s premium miyeok and dasima.”
