Announcement of Classroom Management Guidelines
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has prepared measures to alleviate parents' concerns about the safety of modular classrooms, including air quality, which has recently become a controversial issue.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 24th a plan to conduct a full survey of the air quality in currently used modular classrooms and management guidelines to prevent recurrence.
According to the guidelines, the Office of Education plans to completely eliminate harmful substances that cause sick building syndrome by installing modular classrooms at least six months before use, repeatedly conducting bake-outs and cleaning to resolve the issues.
Modular classrooms will be prioritized for allocation to classrooms with low usage frequency, and existing classrooms in the main school building will be converted into student classrooms.
Air quality inspections will be strengthened from biannual sample surveys to full surveys. Additionally, inspection-related information will be disclosed, and parents will be allowed to participate in modular classroom inspections.
Companies with a history of delayed delivery or air quality non-compliance in modular classrooms over the past two years will be excluded from contracts.
The Office of Education plans to manage air quality for at least three years not only in modular classrooms but also in newly constructed, expanded, renovated, and remodeled buildings, following the same standards as modular classroom management.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, “A safe and comfortable educational environment is important for students' daily lives,” and added, “The Office of Education will do its best to create schools where all students can live safely and happily, using this management guideline as an opportunity.”
