Visiting Taiwan Through Domestic SoBuJang-Inclusive Cooperation Group
The Korea Display Industry Association operated the 'Korea-Taiwan Display Exchange Cooperation Group' by visiting Taiwan for two days starting from the 23rd with domestic material, equipment, and component (SoBuJang) companies to introduce excellent products and technologies of domestic companies and discuss business cooperation between companies of the two countries.

Last November, the association established a cooperation channel with the Taiwan Display Union Association (TDUA) to support the entry of domestic companies into the Taiwanese market, which is increasing investment in MicroLED. This time, the first exchange event between companies of the two countries was held for the purpose of expanding exports of domestic SoBuJang companies and technological exchange with Taiwan, a leading country in MicroLED.
The exchange cooperation group visited AUO, the number one company in Taiwan, for meetings and was invited to the Touch Taiwan 2024 exhibition hosted by TDUA, where they held a technology exchange meeting with major companies such as Innolux. Executives from AUO and Innolux stated at the technology exchange meeting that they would strive to create opportunities to expand cooperation in the display industry between the two countries.
The Taiwanese display industry is strategically investing in MicroLED and building an industrial supply chain and leading technology due to the shrinking LCD market position caused by aggressive investment from China and missed OLED investments. In particular, AUO is preparing for full-scale production by investing 7.875 billion New Taiwan dollars to convert an existing LCD factory into an 8.5-generation MicroLED panel factory, aiming for MicroLED production next year.
Based on industry demand, Korea has been promoting a government-led 'Inorganic Light Emission Industry Promotion Alliance' since last year to advance the preliminary feasibility study project for inorganic light-emitting displays. On the 17th, the 'Inorganic Light Emission Display Subcommittee' was launched under the leadership of the association to gather private demand, and cooperation at both public and private levels is underway to prepare for a full-scale pursuit in the MicroLED industry.
Lee Dong-wook, Vice Chairman of the Korea Display Industry Association, said, "Korea and Taiwan are competitors but also have a mutually cooperative relationship in the set, panel, and SoBuJang sectors," adding, "To achieve the rapid growth and innovation of MicroLED that will surpass existing display product areas, we must strengthen technology exchange and cooperation between companies of the two countries to ensure healthy competition."
He continued, "Taking this exchange meeting as an opportunity, we will invite Taiwanese panel companies such as AUO and Innolux as buyers to the 'K-Display Exhibition' to be held in August," and added, "At the simultaneously held 'Display Business Forum,' we will invite CEOs of MicroLED companies as speakers to share Taiwanese companies’ business strategies and continue exchanges between the two countries."
