Special Events at the Four Major Palaces, Jongmyo, Joseon Royal Tombs, Sejong the Great's Tomb, and Locations like Gwanghwamun and Hyeopsaengmun

In celebration of Children's Day, events for the whole family to enjoy national heritage sites will be held in various locations. On the 24th, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that on the 5th of next month, two guardians accompanying children aged 12 and under to the Four Grand Palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung), Jongmyo Shrine, Joseon Royal Tombs, and King Sejong's Tomb will be admitted free of charge. Children are always eligible for free admission.

At Gwanghwamun and Hyeopsaengmun Gate areas of Gyeongbokgung Palace, special events for children will take place. On the 5th of next month, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., the royal guards wearing puppet masks will perform the Gwanghwamun Guard Changing Ceremony. From the 4th to the 6th of next month, children can experience the selection process of the Gapsa (甲士), elite soldiers of the Joseon Dynasty's central army.


At Changgyeonggung Palace on the 4th of next month, there will be an event where participants learn about King Jeongjo's filial piety and create lanterns using peach blossoms. The event is for elementary school students who have applied in advance. On the 6th of next month at Donggureung in Gyeonggi Province, a program called "Big Play at Geonwonneung" will be held for 4th to 6th graders. Participants will perform royal rites as Joseon kings and learn about the structure and history of royal tombs.


At the Natural Monument Center in Seo-gu, Daejeon, on the 5th of next month, visitors will have the opportunity to touch taxidermy specimens and observe plants using microscopes. They can also view photos and videos of large and ancient natural monument trees.

At the National Intangible Heritage Center in Jeonju on the 4th of next month, the musical "Velvet Rabbit" will be performed. The performance by the traditional Korean music musical group "Changjakhan Taru" will start at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.


The National Maritime Cultural Heritage Research Institute will hold musical performances and craft-making activities at the Mokpo Maritime Artifact Exhibition Hall plaza in Jeollanam-do, while the Taean Maritime Artifact Exhibition Hall in Chungcheongnam-do will offer postcard-making workshops and other experiences.
