Visit to Odense Port Specialized in Offshore Wind Power and World's No.1 Vestas Turbine Factory
Concrete Future Vision of Mokpo City for Rejumping into the Offshore Wind Power Industry
Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo City, who is visiting Denmark to attract investment from global offshore wind power companies and establish an international cooperation system, inspected Odense Harbor and Vestas Wind Systems A/S (hereinafter Vestas) turbine factory, one of the global hubs of the offshore wind power industry, on the 23rd (local time).
Established in 1950, Odense Harbor is the largest port in Denmark (approximately 2.57 million pyeong) and houses more than 150 companies producing key components and equipment for offshore wind power. Numerous offshore wind projects are actively underway in the waters near the harbor, and about 20% of the maintenance for European offshore wind farms is carried out at Odense Harbor.
Mayor Park Hong-ryul said, “I was able to glimpse the future of Mokpo City at Odense Harbor, which is leading the global offshore wind power industry,” adding, “We will focus our capabilities to revitalize Mokpo New Port centered on offshore wind power and make it a world-class industrial hub.”

Focusing on the transition to a ‘sustainable energy city,’ Mokpo City plans to model Odense Harbor and develop Mokpo New Port as an advanced base for the offshore wind power industry in the Asia-Pacific region, centered on A.P. Moller-Maersk (hereinafter Maersk).
Following this, Mayor Park inspected the Vestas factory located within Odense Harbor, the world’s number one wind turbine manufacturer, to directly observe the production process of large offshore wind turbines and thoroughly review the necessary requirements for establishing a Vestas turbine factory at Mokpo New Port.
Established in 2014, the Vestas Lindo factory is a core facility of Vestas with about 450 employees, equipped with approximately 40,000㎡ of production and assembly facilities and parts warehouses, producing ultra-large wind turbines of 9.5 MW and 10 MW classes.
Mayor Park Hong-ryul stated, “I am confident that Vestas’ advanced technology and know-how, when linked with Mokpo City, will lead the domestic offshore wind power industry and simultaneously create innovative outcomes within the region,” and added, “We will actively support the successful establishment of the Vestas turbine factory at Mokpo New Port.”
Meanwhile, on the 22nd, Mokpo City signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in Copenhagen, Denmark, with Vestas and Maersk for investment to establish an offshore wind turbine factory at Mokpo New Port.
