Lee Jae-myung "Presidential Office, Accept Special Prosecutor for 'Marine Corps Investigation Interference'"

"Truth Must Be Uncovered Before the End of the 21st National Assembly"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the Presidential Office to accept a special investigation into the "Marine Corps member line-of-duty death case investigation interference allegations."

At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 24th, Lee Jae-myung stated, "Two out of three citizens support the Marine Corps special investigation," adding, "The people's will is to definitely carry out the special investigation." He continued, "I hope the Presidential Office and the ruling party accept the special investigation and follow the people's command."

Lee said, "Machiavelli said, 'Time is the father of all truth,' and as time passes, the truth about the Marine Corps member's death is being revealed," pointing out, "It was revealed that on the day the investigation materials were being retrieved, the Secretary for Public Service Discipline at the Presidential Office and the Legal Affairs Secretary at the Ministry of National Defense had a phone call." He added, "This is truly a series of unusual and irrational events," and stated, "They attempted to cancel the scheduled investigation results or suddenly tried to arrest Colonel Park Jeong-hoon (former head of the Marine Corps investigation team), who was conducting the investigation properly, by falsely accusing him of being the ringleader of a collective insubordination, an absurd charge."

He further emphasized, "Before the end of the 21st National Assembly, the special investigation must be passed to uncover the truth," and reiterated, "This is precisely the will of the people expressed in the general election."

Other party leaders also intensified their offensive. Jeong Cheong-rae, senior supreme council member, claimed, "The Marine Corps special investigation is a critical point that cannot be avoided in the agenda of the summit meeting," and described it as "a serious case of investigation interference and national order disruption involving allegations directly linked to President Yoon Seok-yeol." He added, "The president should comply with the people's command to not exercise a veto against the Marine Corps special investigation that will pass in the National Assembly and remain silent," and said, "I hope he realizes that the regime's dam is on the verge of collapse. The people's voices saying that three years is too long are gaining strength."
