Hampyeong-gun Launches Initiatives to Foster and Support High-Quality Hanwoo Industry
Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-ik) is making swift progress in improving the traits of high-quality pedigree Hanwoo cows.
According to Hampyeong-gun on the 24th, a meeting was held on the 18th with farmers raising high-quality cows to discuss fostering and supporting the Hanwoo industry and to establish measures to revitalize Hanwoo improvement.

At the meeting, participants included farmers raising high-quality cows, Hampyeong Livestock Cooperative, and the Hampyeong branch of the National Hanwoo Association. Various opinions were exchanged, including the promotion of a genomic analysis project for Hanwoo pedigree improvement and the provision of incentives for high-quality cows.
This year, the county is newly implementing the "Hanwoo Cow Genomic Analysis Support Project," conducting genomic analysis on 1,333 Hanwoo from 16 farms. The number of high-quality cows has increased by 16 compared to the end of December last year, currently totaling 109.
The number of farms raising high-quality cows has also increased by 4, reaching 32 farms. It is expected that the number of high-quality cows in the region will continue to grow.
Governor Lee Sang-ik of Hampyeong-gun stated, "We will promote projects that provide practical help to livestock farmers by accelerating the improvement of high-quality pedigrees," and added, "We are also actively considering a support project for purchasing high-quality cows."
