Residents Beautifying Seongbuk-gu Area... 'Jeongneungcheon Cleanup' and 'Bukhansan Wildfire Prevention Campaign'

Residents have stepped up to nurture and protect Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro).

In Jeongneung 3-dong, residents resumed the 'Jeongneungcheon Cleaning Activity' to preserve the clear and clean natural environment in spring. The Samseon-dong Saemaeul Leaders' Council conducted a 'Forest Fire Prevention Campaign' to protect the nature around Bukhansan. On the 19th, residents of Jeongneung 3-dong, the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group, Jeongneungcheon Special Task Force, and Jeongneung Market Merchants Association gathered to carry out volunteer cleaning activities along Jeongneungcheon. The environmental cleanup activities of Jeongneungcheon, which had taken a break during winter since last November, were restarted to welcome spring.

Despite the high fine dust levels that day, participants wore rubber boots and entered the stream to pick up trash, cleaned up pet waste, and thoroughly cleaned every corner of Jeongneungcheon, demonstrating their unwavering love for Jeongneungcheon. The Jeongneungcheon cleaning activity began in August 2022, and through voluntary participation of residents, cleanup volunteer activities have continued from the Jeongneung 308 Bridge to the creek island of Jeongneungcheon.

Kwon Hyun-sik, head of the Jeongneung 3-dong Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group, said, "I am grateful to the residents who have not forgotten and have consistently participated in the Jeongneungcheon cleaning, which was paused from last November to March. I feel a greater sense of responsibility for the Jeongneungcheon volunteer activities and will do my best to ensure that the continuous cleanup efforts help Jeongneungcheon become a precious resting place for residents."

On the 21st, to mark the 14th Saemaeul Day, about 10 leaders of the Samseon-dong Saemaeul Leaders' Council (Chairman: Seo Il-moon) conducted a 'Nature Protection Forest Fire Prevention Campaign' around Bukhansan. With the increased risk of forest fires in spring, they promoted compliance with forest fire prevention measures to hikers, including immediate reporting to 119 and the relevant forestry department upon discovering a fire, prohibition of cigarette butt disposal, prohibition of carrying flammable materials, and prohibition of cooking within the forest. Additionally, they planted 20 pine trees around Bukhansan to practice carbon neutrality and conducted trash pickup activities along hiking trails, combining efforts to protect nature. Seo Il-moon, chairman of the Samseon-dong Saemaeul Leaders' Council, said, "On Saemaeul Day, the trees we planted seem to be a step forward in practicing carbon neutrality," and added, "Through this campaign, I hope hikers visiting Bukhansan will be more alert to forest fire risks and take greater interest in nature protection."
