Gyeonggi Province will introduce a ‘Robotic Process Automation (RPA) system’ that allows artificial intelligence (AI) programs to automatically handle simple and repetitive administrative tasks as early as November.
The RPA system is based on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, where repeated processing procedures for each task are input, and the program carries out automated work. For example, it automates certain procedures (processes) such as handling public officials’ duty shifts or organizing data?simple and repetitive tasks?through the program to improve work efficiency and speed. While private companies and some local governments have already adopted this system, Gyeonggi Province plans to introduce it for the first time.
To this end, Gyeonggi Province will select a service provider to operate the RPA system in June. Previously, the province conducted a demand survey and internal discovery across all departments, identifying a total of 26 tasks from 14 departments. After internal review of feasibility and effectiveness, and consulting following the selection of the service provider, seven final tasks will be confirmed.
The automation targets include fields such as transportation, environment, construction, and local legal affairs, and the RPA system is expected to be fully implemented and utilized in actual work by November.
Lee Hee-jun, Director of Planning and Coordination at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through the establishment of the RPA system, Gyeonggi Province can become the undisputed center of digital transformation and innovation in work methods." He added, "We hope that the time saved by automated work processes will allow employees to focus on creative and innovative tasks, thereby providing significantly improved administrative services to the residents."
