Seeking Diverse and Innovative Ideas for Development of Semi-Industrial Areas and Gyeongbu Line Vicinity
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold the “Semi-Industrial Area and Gyeongbu Line Area Development Idea Contest” to create a hopeful blueprint for semi-industrial areas such as Dangsan, Yangpyeong, and Mullae, as well as the railway ground space and adjacent areas between Daebang Station and Sindorim Station.
Yeongdeungpo-gu’s semi-industrial areas account for 25.2% of all semi-industrial areas in Seoul, making it the largest in size and a former hub that led industrialization. However, due to the relocation of factories to provinces and changes in industrial structure, there is a need to improve the urban environment.
Also, the 3.4 km section of the Gyeongbu Line railway passing between Daebang Station and Sindorim Station plays a central role in logistics transportation and human exchange, but at the same time, it divides the district north and south, causing a break in living zones and hindering regional development.
To promptly resolve these long-standing issues, Seoul City announced the “Southwest Region Grand Renovation” plan, which includes development plans such as increasing the floor area ratio for apartment complexes in semi-industrial areas up to 400%.
Earlier this year, a special law containing provisions for railway undergrounding and railway site development also passed the National Assembly plenary session.
In line with this, the district is conducting a project for the “Development Plan for Semi-Industrial Areas” and the “Comprehensive Development Master Plan for the Gyeongbu Line Area,” preparing to leap forward as an economic hub leading the future 4th industrial revolution and a complex city where industry, residence, and culture coexist.
To create the future of young Yeongdeungpo together, the district held a session in January for district office employees to share excellent proposals related to development plans.
Furthermore, the district is holding the contest to listen to more diverse opinions. The contest themes are “Development Plan for Semi-Industrial Areas” and “Establishment of a Comprehensive Development Master Plan for the Gyeongbu Line Area,” with the submission deadline set for May 21. Anyone interested in district administration can participate regardless of residence or other special conditions.
Those wishing to participate can submit proposals through the “Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website - Citizen Proposals” bulletin board or via the QR code, and submissions can also be made by visiting the local community service center.
Outstanding ideas received will be reviewed by the proposal evaluation committee, which will determine the award levels of Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Encouragement prizes, with prize money up to 1 million KRW awarded accordingly. Winners will be notified individually.
Detailed explanations about the contest themes can be found on the “Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website - Citizen Proposals - Notices” bulletin board or by contacting the Urban Planning Division. Inquiries related to the contest can be directed to the Planning and Budget Division for guidance.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “This contest is a great opportunity to build the ‘Land of Opportunity,’ Yeongdeungpo, together, and we ask for active participation from those interested. We will embrace fresh and diverse ideas for the development of semi-industrial areas and the Gyeongbu Line area to build a core city for the future 4th industrial revolution.”
