May 10 Opening at Seoul New Korea Country Club
LPGA 6-Time Champion Danielle Kang Also Joins
3 Professionals and 1 Amateur Compete in 36 Teams
World No. 9 Kim Hyo-joo is coming to Korea.
She will participate in the Aramco Team Series, held for the first time in Korea at New Korea Country Club in Seoul for three days starting May 10. The tournament is sponsored by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. It is the second event in the international series that tours five countries annually. It is also a Ladies European Tour (LET) event. Thirty-six teams, each consisting of three professionals and one amateur, will compete for the championship trophy. On the final day, professional players will compete for the individual title.
Golf Saudi (Saudi Golf Federation), the tournament organizer, plans to field world-class players in partnership with Kolon Group, the official host partner. Kolon Group has been hosting the Kolon Korea Open, a national title tournament, for 34 years since 1990.
Kim Hyo-joo is a strong favorite to win. She is a formidable player with six career wins on the LPGA Tour, including one major championship. Kim said, "I heard from tour officials how special the Aramco Team Series is, and I understand it is on a level similar to LPGA major tournaments." She added, "The tournament format is really unique, so I am looking forward to it. I will do my best to showcase a high level of performance."
Daniel Kang (USA) will also participate. He is ranked 89th in the world with six career wins on the LPGA Tour. As a Korean-American, Seoul is not an unfamiliar city to him. He said, "I am really happy to participate in the Aramco Team Series held in Korea. I really enjoy this team-format tournament," and added, "I am already excited to compete alongside great golfers from the LPGA and LET."
Various attractions will be prepared for fans visiting the tournament venue. At the Aramco Energy Zone, fans can experience immersive state-of-the-art virtual reality golf, feeling as if they are standing directly on the green. The fan zone will offer a variety of food and beverages, as well as unique play facilities that people of all ages can enjoy together.
