Visit to President Park's Birthplace, Chamber of Commerce, and Local Companies
A delegation led by Zhao Bo, Mayor of Guang'an City in Sichuan Province, China, which is an international sister city of Gumi City, Gyeongbuk, visited Gumi City for a 3-day, 2-night schedule starting April 21.
The Guang'an mayor's delegation visited the birthplace of President Park Chung-hee to gain a deep understanding of modern Korean history and the development history of Gumi City. They also visited the Gumi Chamber of Commerce and major local companies to explore industrial cooperation possibilities between the two cities and to lay the foundation for future-oriented exchange and cooperation.
On the 22nd, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho welcomed the Guang'an mayor's delegation at City Hall and exchanged broad opinions on ways to promote exchange and cooperation between the two cities.
He said, "Since Gumi City and Guang'an City signed a friendship agreement in November 2012, continuous exchanges have been promoted, including mutual visits by high-ranking officials, youth homestays, and mutual delivery of COVID-19 relief supplies. We hope that practical exchange and cooperation will also be realized in the industrial sector going forward."
Guang'an City is the hometown of China's former leader Deng Xiaoping, and Deng Xiaoping and President Park Chung-hee similarly actively pursued reform and opening-up policies for their countries' economic development.
Sharing this historical background, the two cities are expected to continue meaningful and practical cooperation through this visit.
