Sunchon National University Establishes 'Glocal Scholarship' for New and Current Students

For Fostering Glocal Talents and Supporting Settlement

Selecting Students Residing in Suncheon, Gwangyang, and Goheung

Providing Approximately 400 Million KRW in Living Expense Scholarships and More

Last year, Suncheon National University (President Lee Byung-woon), the only glocal university in Jeonnam, announced the establishment of the ‘Glocal Scholarship’ to attract outstanding students in specialized fields and support local talent settlement.

To achieve its glocal vision, Suncheon National University has introduced the ‘Glocal Outstanding Talent Development Scholarship’ and the ‘Glocal Settlement Support Scholarship.’ The newly established scholarship programs will be applied immediately to new and current students starting from the 2025 academic year.

First, the ‘Glocal Outstanding Talent Development Scholarship’ aims to attract outstanding freshmen in specialized glocal fields by selecting 30 freshmen (10 per specialized field) with excellent admission scores in the 2025 academic year, providing each with tuition fees (one year) and an annual living allowance of 6 million KRW.

Scholarship recipients will also receive benefits such as priority dormitory admission and priority selection for overseas exploration programs.

The ‘Glocal Settlement Support Scholarship,’ designed to prevent the outflow and promote the inflow of young people in the glocal campus region, will select 100 current students who have resided for more than six months in areas planned for the establishment of the Jisan-Hak campus, including Suncheon City, Gwangyang City, and Goheung County, and provide an annual living allowance of 1 million KRW.

Suncheon National University has established a scholarship budget of approximately 400 million KRW, of which 180 million KRW for the living allowance scholarship (Glocal Outstanding Talent Development Scholarship) will be supported by the Suncheon National University Development Support Foundation.

President Lee Byung-woon stated, “We will encourage the academic achievements of outstanding students to foster specialized fields at the glocal university and provide various scholarship benefits to increase the settlement rate in the local community.”
