Jangho Lee and Others Participate in Judging Panel
The submission period for the ‘2024 Gyeongsangbuk-do International AI·Metaverse Film Festival (GAMFF)’ competition, scheduled for June 15, closed on the 18th of last month.
The competition, held for one month from March 18, targeted films and videos utilizing or themed around AI and metaverse technologies. A total of 527 works were submitted, including entries from 42 countries overseas such as the United States, China, and India.
With broad participation ranging from film directors and AI·metaverse experts to the general public and students, the competition achieved an unprecedented result for its inaugural event, brightening the prospects for the film festival’s success in June.
The competition was divided into film and video categories, with a total prize pool of 35 million KRW awarded to 21 works.
The winners will be selected through a fair evaluation by a panel of judges composed of experts, including the renowned film director Lee Jang-ho.
Additionally, during the submission period, the ‘GAMFF One-Day Class’ orientation attracted over 200 participants nationwide, despite only 50 spots being available, demonstrating the public’s strong interest in AI·metaverse video production and the film festival.
The GAMFF organizing committee, which hosted the competition, evaluated that the success in attracting attention was due to the unique idea of combining the ‘international film festival’ as a popular art form with a ‘video and film competition utilizing AI and metaverse,’ along with actively promoting it by targeting specific groups across various sectors.
Im Young-ha, chairman of the film festival organizing committee, said, “As this is the first time the festival is being held, we initially aimed for about 150 submissions, but the final result of 527 entries and the explosive interest surprised us. We will prepare thoroughly for the festival in June, fueled by this support.”
Gyeongsangbuk-do, which declared itself the nation’s first ‘Metaverse Capital’ and established a dedicated metaverse department to swiftly respond to future technology fields in the 4th industrial era, will hold Korea’s first AI·Metaverse Film Festival both online and offline this June.
Members who participated in the Gyeongbuk AI Metaverse Film Festival Organizing Committee appointment ceremony gathered in one place for a commemorative photo.
The ‘2024 Gyeongsangbuk-do International AI·Metaverse Film Festival,’ held on June 15, will open with a ceremony at the special stage in Geumosan Provincial Park, Gumi City, featuring the announcement of competition results, a red carpet event, and performances by popular singers, making it a spectacular film festival.
The festival will showcase the winning entries and invited domestic and international works to the public through the online film festival platform developed by Gyeongsangbuk-do (GAMFF WORLD) and offline screens at cinemas within Gumi City.
Furthermore, through cooperation with overseas film festivals in countries such as the United States, Kyrgyzstan, and Canada, the festival plans to continue collaborations including screenings of invited works and mutual exchanges.
Lee Cheol-woo, governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, “The AI·Metaverse Film Festival is not only a new creative platform through the fusion of technology and art but also an opportunity for Gyeongsangbuk-do to lead the metaverse era through international exchange. I thank the directors and organizing committee members who participated in preparing the festival and ask everyone to do their best in preparing for the upcoming festival, building on the success of the competition.”
