Busan Port Authority (BPA) is undertaking the "Establishment of Design and Construction Guidelines for Preventing Underground Water Leakage in the Bukhang Redevelopment Project Area" to prevent leakage damage that may occur during underground structure construction in the first phase of the Bukhang redevelopment project site.

The first phase of the Bukhang redevelopment project site is an area formed by land reclamation from the sea, where unexpected leakage during construction involving underground structures such as underground parking lots and underground roads has caused setbacks in the project.

Accordingly, considering the special characteristics of the reclaimed ground, the need for design and construction guidelines has been raised. Busan Port Authority and the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office will issue a service contract in April to improve the problems of existing design and construction and establish guidelines, which will be implemented over six months.

In this service, groundwater level measurement wells will be installed within the Bukhang redevelopment project site to comprehensively investigate the direction and speed of groundwater, and based on the analysis results, design and construction directions to prevent leakage will be presented.

Through this, Busan Port Authority explained that it plans to minimize damage during underground structure construction in the Bukhang redevelopment project site in the future and successfully promote the redevelopment project.

BPA President Kang Jun-seok said, “By conducting a thorough service, we will establish optimized guidelines for the first phase of the Bukhang redevelopment project site and share the service outcomes with the private sector to ensure that the same damage does not occur during underground structure construction in future redevelopment project sites. We will do our best to fulfill our public role.”
