Dongseo University Wins Gold at 'Clio Awards'... Consecutive Bronze and Main Awards Also Received

The Only Gold Award in Domestic Universities, 2 Bronze Teams & 8 Finalists

Only 7 Universities Worldwide Won the Gold Award

Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) announced on the 22nd that it won one Gold Award, two Bronze Awards, and eight Shortlist Awards at the CLIO AWARDS, known as the Academy Awards of the advertising industry.

Since its inception in 1959, the CLIO AWARDS has received about 18,000 entries annually from approximately 65 countries and is recognized as the world's top advertising awards selected by the International Advertising Association (IAA). The CLIO AWARDS evaluates and selects winning works solely based on creativity, regardless of whether the entrants are professional advertisers or students.

A university official stated that this award is significant as only seven universities worldwide won the highest Gold Award.

Dongseo University was the only domestic university to receive the Gold Award, and domestically, Dongseo University and Cheil Worldwide won the Gold Awards.

The Gold Award-winning work, "Crocs Check," was created by students Moon Ki-hyun, Jo Hyun-min, Kwon Eun-kyung, Kim Min-seong, and Kang Dong-ho. The Bronze Award-winning works "Signal Convex Mirror of Volvo" and "Mart Track" were created by students Jo Min-woong, Kim Ga-young, Jin Da-yeon, Song Ye-ram, and Moon Ki-hyun, Jo Hyun-min, Kwon Eun-kyung, Kim Min-seong, respectively.

The awarded works were the results of the convergent courses (Advertising & Public Relations + Design + Software) "Ideation Convergence Practice" and the Advertising & Public Relations Department's "Creative Problem Solving," supported by the University Innovation Support Project Group, LINC 3.0 Project Group, and SW-Centered University Project Group. The awards ceremony will be held on May 1 at Gotham Hall, NYC, USA.

The Gold Award-winning work "Crocs Check" is an idea to prevent child disappearances inspired by data from the Child Crime Prevention Safety Center, which reports that one child disappears every 40 seconds in the U.S. Most child disappearances occur when children are with their parents. Parents search for their children, but since children also move, their locations often do not match, making it difficult to find them. This project aims to prevent disappearances by using the easily recognizable RED/GREEN LIGHT of traffic signals for children.

Jo Hyun-min (majoring in Visual Design) said, "Through the convergent education classes provided by the university, I was able to gain diverse experiences and create creative ideas that resonated with people. The time spent creating works with my peers was a valuable experience, and I will not forget this moment and work even harder."

Dongseo University first submitted entries to the CLIO AWARDS in 2020, winning Silver, Bronze, and Shortlist Awards, and in 2022 won two Silver Awards, one Bronze Award, and two Shortlist Awards. In total, Dongseo University has won 19 awards at the CLIO AWARDS, demonstrating its capabilities in the design specialization field.

Jang Je-guk, President of Dongseo University, said, "The university is making every effort to enhance students' creativity and spirit of challenge through convergent education and customized education. We will support all faculty and staff so that students can demonstrate their abilities in their respective fields and grow into experts who contribute to social and economic development."
