Over 1,600 People Join the "Together on the Path, Toward Equality" Initiative
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 22nd that it held the 44th Disabled Persons Day ceremony on the 19th at the Wando Cheonghaejin Sports Center under the theme "The Path Together, The Path Toward Equality."
Disabled Persons Day, which marks its 44th anniversary this year, is a legally designated commemorative day established to improve social awareness of people with disabilities and to encourage their rehabilitation motivation.
This ceremony was co-hosted by Wando-gun and Jeollanam-do, and organized by the Joint Committee for the Disabled Persons Day Ceremony (Jeollanam-do Associations for Physical, Hearing, and Visual Disabilities).

The ceremony was attended by Myung Chang-hwan, Vice Governor of Jeollanam-do, Shin Woo-cheol, Governor of Wando-gun, Park Ji-won, elected member of the National Assembly for Haenam, Wando, and Jindo, Lee Cheol, Chairman of the Economic, Tourism and Culture Committee of the Jeollanam-do Council, Heo Gung-hee, Chairman of the Wando County Council, as well as about 1,500 people including persons with disabilities and their families.
The ceremony began with a Samulnori performance by the Wando-gun Disabled Welfare Center Pungmul Class team and a harmonica performance by the Jeonnam Association of the Visually Impaired, followed by viewing of the Disabled Persons Human Rights Charter (sand art video), awards for distinguished persons with disabilities and commendations for contributors to disability welfare, commemorative speeches, congratulatory speeches, scholarship presentations for talent development, and performances.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol said in his welcoming address, "People with disabilities should not be discriminated against or marginalized for any reason, and Wando-gun will make greater efforts to ensure that everyone can live in an equal and happy society."
At the side event venue, services such as the Jeonnam Happiness Bus providing health checkups and beauty services, repair of assistive devices for persons with disabilities, and exhibitions of works by city/county branches and the Wando-gun Disabled Welfare Center were held.
After the ceremony, cultural tours continued to Shinji Myeongsasimni, the Marine Healing Center, Jangbogo Memorial Hall, Wando Arboretum, and Wando Tower.
In particular, since the event gathered a large number of people, the county operated safety measures including facility safety, traffic control teams, and medical support teams, successfully preventing any accidents and concluding the event safely.
