Hyundai Motor Group has signed a power purchase agreement to operate its electric vehicle-only factory under construction in Georgia, USA, using renewable energy from solar power.
On the 22nd, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it recently signed a 15-year (2025?2040) long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a new solar power project led by Spanish renewable energy developer 'Matrix Renewables.'
The scale of this power purchase agreement is 147MW (megawatts), making it the largest PPA signed by a Korean company for renewable energy use at its US sites.
The agreement involves four Hyundai Motor Group affiliates jointly participating: Hyundai Motor Group Meta Plant America (HMGMA), the new electric vehicle factory in Georgia; Hyundai Mobis North America Electrification (MNAe), which entered the local market alongside HMGMA; Hyundai Steel Georgia (HSGA); and Hyundai Transys Georgia P/T (HTGP), located nearby.
Notably, this PPA procures renewable energy from a new solar power facility linked to Hyundai Motor Group’s large-scale order, rather than from existing renewable energy generation facilities.

The expected annual carbon reduction effect through this energy procurement is estimated at about 140,000 tons, equivalent to the amount of carbon absorbed by approximately 84,000 compact sedans over one year.
The solar project supplying renewable energy to Hyundai Motor Group is a 210MW-class facility being developed by Matrix Renewables in Bell County, Texas, aiming for commercial operation in October 2025. Hyundai Motor Group secured 147MW, which is 70% of the total generation capacity of 210MW, and plans to procure renewable energy amounting to 378GWh annually. This is enough energy to supply about 100,000 households in Korea for one year.
The solar renewable energy secured this time will be used by the electric vehicle-only factory ▲HMGMA, and ▲Hyundai Mobis North America Electrification and ▲Hyundai Steel Georgia, which supply electrification parts and electric vehicle steel plates to HMGMA respectively. Hyundai Transys plans to utilize the ▲Georgia seat factory, which supplies seats to HMGMA together with the ▲Georgia P/T corporation.
Through this, HMGMA will establish a renewable energy usage system not only at the finished vehicle factory itself but also across its supply chain. A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "Starting with this solar power project PPA, investments and contracts for renewable energy transition at Hyundai Motor Group’s US sites will proceed sequentially," adding, "We plan to continue promoting cooperation among group companies to effectively secure renewable energy."
