Supply of AI Robot 'Chloe' to Kakao Mobility
LG Electronics is accelerating its expansion in the B2B (business-to-business) sector, including delivery and logistics services, by leveraging AI robots and advanced robot control solutions.
On the 22nd, LG Electronics announced that starting this month, it will supply its AI autonomous delivery robot, the 'LG CLOi ServeBot (double-door type),' to Kakao Mobility's newly launched robot delivery service 'BRING,' which targets various building spaces such as large offices, hotels, apartments, and hospitals.
Since signing the 'Business Agreement for Future Mobility Service Innovation' in 2022, the two companies have continued technical cooperation to commercialize AI robot delivery services. Through this collaboration, LG Electronics will provide AI CLOi robots and a control solution that monitors delivery status and robot conditions, while Kakao Mobility will operate its own robot delivery service integrated with this system.
For example, when a user orders coffee or food from shops inside a building via the service app, an employee places the items into the robot’s drawer, and the robot autonomously calls and rides elevators or passes through automatic doors to deliver items to up to four locations in one trip. The drawers are equipped with security and locking devices to prevent theft or loss during delivery.
The double-door CLOi ServeBot provided by LG Electronics can carry up to 30kg of items in its four-compartment double-door drawer. It can hold up to 32 cups of regular-sized (about 350ml) coffee, and its interior space features antibacterial materials and a deodorizing ventilation fan. It runs stably inside buildings on six wheels equipped with independent suspension (shock absorbers). A 10.1-inch display on the front serves as a mobile advertising board. Content can be easily uploaded via a mobile app, and it supports building escort functions and voice guidance.
LG Electronics is focusing on enhancing its capabilities in commercial robot businesses such as delivery and logistics, which are part of its 2030 future vision for new businesses. Recently, it invested $60 million in Bear Robotics, a startup specializing in AI-based autonomous service robots. Going forward, LG plans to accelerate the establishment of total solutions covering the entire distribution process, including last-mile delivery that delivers ordered products to end consumers, as well as robot supply.
No Gyu-chan, head of LG Electronics’ Robot Business Division, said, "To utilize service robots in various spaces, advanced platform technology encompassing AI, communication, and control is essential," adding, "Based on the robot solution capabilities and know-how we have accumulated early on, we will continue to introduce new customer experiences."
