Gwanak-gu Opens Social Economy Market 'Kkum Market' with Food and Attractions

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is accelerating efforts to revitalize the local economy by opening the ‘Kkum Market’ for the first time on April 25 and 26, which is operated to expand sales channels and promote social economy enterprises.

Recognized as Gwanak-gu’s representative marketplace, ‘Kkum Market’ is a project that supports social economy enterprises struggling with sales due to low brand awareness to secure stable sales channels and continue growing sustainably.

Through the offline market held at the plaza in front of Gwanak-gu Office and the online markets on two channels, Kakao and Naver Store, the market achieved annual sales reaching 290 million KRW in 2023.

This year, ‘Kkum Market’ is scheduled to be held eight times annually (April 25-26, May 23-24, September 10-11, October 17-18).

The operating hours of Kkum Market are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on the first day, April 25, an opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. with participants.

This Kkum Market will showcase a variety of products in one place, including handicrafts, daily necessities, food, and fruits. In addition to regular events such as promotional booths and busking performances, distinctive events like the Chuseok Special Exhibition and Social Economy Festival will be held for each session, providing diverse attractions and entertainment to enliven the market.

To encourage participation from many residents, the district will hold a first-come, first-served event where customers who purchase products at five booths will receive a tarpaulin bag as a gift. The market also promotes environmental friendliness by encouraging the use of reusable shopping bags instead of disposable plastic bags.

Starting this year, in cooperation with the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, the ‘Seoul Culture Nuri Card’ can be used at Kkum Market, allowing residents from culturally vulnerable groups to enjoy the market together.

Especially this year, plans are underway to create pop-up stores linked with local festivals, making Kkum Market even more accessible and engaging for local residents.

The district is sparing no effort in revitalizing the social economy as part of the 8th term mayoral pledges. Among these, Kkum Market is a representative project of the district that has proven its effectiveness in increasing sales and promotional impact for social economy enterprises.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “I hope Kkum Market will play a significant role not only in the social economy but also in invigorating the Gwanak-gu local economy and raising awareness among residents about the necessity and benefits of the social economy.”
