Dobong-gu Creates Public Parking Lot Under National Railway Overpass... Secures 34 Parking Spaces

Securing Part of the Space Occupied by a Used Car Dealership for Over 20 Years as a Public Parking Lot
Improved Resident Mobility with Direct Access from Public Parking Lot to Dobong-ro

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is promoting a public parking lot construction project under the National Railroad overpass to alleviate parking difficulties in the Dobong-dong area.

The district announced that by May, a total of 34 parking spaces will be installed and operated in the space beneath the railway site (Dobong-dong 59-1).

This public parking lot construction project is the result of continuous cooperation requests to the managing authority (Korea National Railway Corporation) after the occupancy period of the railway site underpass, which had been occupied by used car dealerships for over 20 years, expired in January 2023, allowing the district to create a public parking lot in the available space.

With this project, the old fence that had separated Dobong-ro and residential areas such as Donga Ecovil Apartments will be removed and newly renovated as parking lot entrances, and the previously dark space under the overpass will be greatly improved with the installation of lighting and surveillance cameras, enhancing the local environment.

In particular, residents of Donga Ecovil Apartments and nearby houses will benefit from direct access to Dobong-ro, creating a transportation environment that allows convenient use of public transportation (buses, subway).

The district is focusing on expanding parking lots to alleviate parking difficulties in the area. Since 2004, it has implemented the Green Parking Fence Removal Project, securing 1,843 parking spaces and newly creating 23 parking spaces on vacant lots left unattended in the area.

This year, the district plans to create 19 parking spaces at three locations by signing free-use agreements with Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) for vacant houses and lots owned by the corporation.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “The newly created public parking lot under the National Railroad is the result of the district’s continuous efforts to alleviate parking difficulties. It will significantly ease parking problems for residents of Dobong-dong, including those living in Donga Ecovil.” He added, “The district will continue to make multifaceted efforts to solve the shortage of parking spaces.”
