Gyeongnam Nonghyup held the ‘2024 Gyeongnam Export Nonghyup Council Regular General Meeting’ on the 19th at the Rivier Convention in Changwon.
With over 70 participants including export Nonghyup chairpersons, they resolved to unite the capabilities of export Nonghyups and do their best in exporting agricultural and livestock products.
Despite difficult conditions last year such as poor crop yields due to abnormal weather, rising farm management costs, exchange rate fluctuation risks, and a global economic recession caused by inflation, Gyeongnam Nonghyup exported $101 million focusing on strawberries, paprika, persimmons, chestnuts, and flowers, achieving first place nationwide for 26 consecutive years in fresh agricultural product exports.

This year, despite challenging export conditions such as increased export costs due to global inflation, deteriorating profitability for export farms caused by prolonged depreciation of the Japanese yen, and reduced export price competitiveness due to the abolition of export logistics support, they resolved to achieve $120 million in agricultural food exports and to strive for export activation.
To this end, the council will strengthen export competitiveness through ▲ fostering export specialized organizations as exclusive shipping organizations by item within Nonghyup ▲ diversifying export markets through overseas market research ▲ enhancing product competitiveness at export production sites and minimizing export claims ▲ supporting member export promotion activity expenses ▲ responding to the abolition of export logistics costs, participating in policies, and discovering agricultural support projects ▲ promoting local marketing cooperation with distribution channels and related organizations.
Chairman Kang Bok-won urged, “Due to aging farmers and shortage of farming labor, the cultivation area of major export items is decreasing and farming material costs are rising, increasing the burden on farmers and causing difficulties in exports. However, Nonghyups belonging to the Export Nonghyup Council should work together with administration to ensure that the export will of export farmers does not waver.”
Director Cho Geun-su said, “Exporting agricultural products not only helps stabilize supply and demand and supports domestic prices, but also promotes our fresh food overseas, enhancing national prestige. Therefore, our Nonghyup should take a leading role.”
