Busan Office of Education Accelerates Support for School Sports Team Operations

Support for Improving Training Environment Including Student Athlete Incentives

Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 19th that it is accelerating the implementation of projects to strengthen support for school sports teams following the 'Capacity Building Training for School Sports Team Personnel' held last March.

Currently, the Office of Education supports school sports team operations with approximately 6 billion KRW to cover the shortage of school sports team operating expenses, about 3.2 billion KRW in 'Student Athlete Incentives' to provide career and academic opportunities for low-income students in soccer and baseball, and 4.3 billion KRW for projects aimed at improving student athlete welfare and creating a safe and comfortable sports environment.

In addition, through collective bargaining, since March, the salaries of school sports team coaches have been raised to 'Type I' level, improving treatment to the highest level nationwide.

In particular, according to the 'Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of School Sports Teams by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education,' proposed by Busan City Council member Lee Seung-woo, a five-year plan has been established to intensify administrative and financial support for the development of school sports teams.

Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, “The Office of Education is doing its best to support the field by securing student athletes and nurturing elite players through transparent and honest management of school sports teams,” and added, “We will devote ourselves to improving the performance of student athletes participating in the upcoming Busan National Sports Festival through thorough support for school sports teams.”
