Yongsan-gu Cheongpa-dong Residents Organize to Support Vulnerable Households and Others

“It was heartbreaking to see an elderly person with leg difficulties living on the floor.”

The Cheongpa-dong Community Security Council in Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) has been providing services such as ▲organizing and storage ▲bedding laundry ▲safety inspections to vulnerable households with poor living conditions since March this year.

This service is conducted once a month according to the characteristics of each household in collaboration with the Cheongpa-dong Pureun Eondeokgi Volunteer Group, Yongsan-gu Volunteer Center (Talent Sharing Volunteer Group), and The Saeron Environment Co., Ltd.

Depending on the household’s needs, support such as ▲wallpaper and flooring replacement ▲LED light replacement ▲provision of storage items is also provided.

Recipients are selected from reports by local residents and those identified by welfare planners.

The idea for this project was proposed by members of the Community Security Council who, over several years, personally delivered side dishes to vulnerable groups and engaged with them to understand their needs.

Last month, together with the Yongsan-gu Volunteer Center’s organizing and storage volunteer group, the service was provided to elderly vulnerable households with mobility difficulties who moved into Cheongpa-dong this year.

Reflecting the talent volunteer group’s suggestion that a bed was needed for the elderly person with leg difficulties, a bed was provided through resource linkage.

No Jeong-ha, head of the Cheongpa-dong Resident Center, stated, “We will do our best to support those in somewhat difficult conditions so that they can live in a comfortable and safe environment, allowing the ideas of local residents to shine.”
