The Korean branch of Wacom, a global tablet specialist company, has been conducting the ‘Wacom Webtoon Scholarship Program’ since 2023 by selecting outstanding webtoon departments from major universities nationwide.

Scholarship recipients selected for the ‘Wacom Webtoon Scholarship Program’ are awarded Wacom’s high-performance LCD tablets as scholarship equipment.

At the award ceremony that day, two students from Yeungjin College’s Department of Cartoon Animation received Wacom’s latest tablet, the ‘Cintiq 22’ (worth approximately 1.6 million KRW).

Kim Joo-hyung, CEO of Wacom Korea, said, “The Wacom Webtoon Scholarship Program is a system that supports domestic university webtoon departments to nurture promising talents in the global creative industry,” adding, “Wacom is also contributing to the further activation of the domestic digital creative market.”

Kim Kwang-ho, head of Yeungjin College’s Department of Cartoon Animation, proudly stated, “Students Ryu Min-woo and Kwon Hye-rin (3rd year), who received Wacom scholarship support, have been selected for several projects such as the Uljin Webtoon Contest main prize and the Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation Content Promotion Agency support project, showing promising futures in webtoon creation.”

Yeungjin College’s Department of Cartoon Animation is the first specialized college in the Daegu area to be approved to operate an advanced major course awarding a 4-year bachelor’s degree.

Through the university’s active support of educational infrastructure, the department is equipped with three webtoon animation practice rooms (with Wacom Cintiq tablets), and under this educational environment, renowned webtoon artists affiliated with the Daegu Cartoonists Association provide apprenticeship education, realizing high-quality education.

Additionally, the department was selected for the 2024 Daegu Urban Campus Town Support Project and is establishing itself as a leading regional educational institution in the content field by offering character industrialization courses and career experience education for high school students.

Yeungjin College plans to expand and reorganize into the Art Media Department (including the Department of Cartoon Animation, Broadcasting and Video Media Department, Art Media Autonomous Department, and Visual Design Department) for the 2025 academic year.
