Hyundai Motor Company and Kia's car sales in Europe for the first quarter of this year slightly decreased compared to the first quarter of last year. During the same period, Hyundai's sales increased by over 1%, but Kia's sales declined by more than 3%, affecting the overall figures.


According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on the 18th, Hyundai and Kia's total sales for the first quarter of this year amounted to 278,432 units, representing a 1.3% decrease compared to the same period last year.


Specifically, Hyundai sold 135,281 units during the same period, marking a 1.3% increase, while Kia sold 143,151 units, a 3.6% decrease. This contrasts with the overall car sales in Europe, which increased by 4.9% to 3,395,049 units compared to the previous year. Consequently, the combined market share of Hyundai and Kia dropped by 0.5 percentage points to 9.2% compared to the same period last year. Hyundai's share was 4.0% (down 0.1%), and Kia's was 4.2% (down 0.4%).


The best-selling model among the two companies was the Kia Sportage, with 45,675 units sold. This was followed by the Kia Ceed with 32,243 units, Hyundai Tucson with 32,187 units, Kia Niro with 19,784 units, Hyundai Kona with 18,967 units, and Hyundai i20 with 14,830 units.


Regarding eco-friendly models, Hyundai's Tucson Hybrid was the best-seller with 17,160 units (13,136 hybrid units and 4,024 plug-in hybrid units). Kia sold 19,874 units of the Niro (11,724 hybrid and plug-in hybrid units, and 8,060 electric vehicles).


In March alone, Hyundai and Kia's sales totaled 112,692 units, a 5.6% decrease compared to the same month last year. This decline was greater than the overall European market sales drop of 2.8%. Last month, Hyundai and Kia's combined market share was 8.1%, down 0.2 percentage points from the same month last year.
