Introduction of Quarter-Size Minimal SIM
Effect of Reducing 100,000 PET Bottles Annually
SK Telecom's budget phone brand 'SK Seven Mobile' is introducing a quarter-size minimal SIM card that is half the size of the half-size SIM card.
On the 18th, SK Seven Mobile announced that with the launch of the quarter-size minimal SIM card, it will practice reducing plastic waste and achieving carbon neutrality.
The reduced-size minimal SIM card can save about 4g of plastic per card compared to existing SIM cards. Based on SK Seven Mobile's SIM card usage, this equates to reducing the emission of more than 100,000 500ml PET bottles annually.
The minimal SIM card can be purchased on the SK Seven Mobile online mall. In the second half of this year, all SIM cards sold through all distribution channels, including convenience stores, will be replaced with minimal SIM cards.
Kim Gwangju, head of SK Telecom's MVNO business, said, "Since 2020, SK Seven Mobile has led the introduction of various eco-packaging, from delivery boxes to packaging materials, as the first in the budget phone industry," adding, "We will make various efforts to practice social values of coexistence and provide a trustworthy budget phone service that consumers can confidently subscribe to."
