Mokpo National University Expands Support for Local Ceramic Industry with 250 Million KRW Government Funding

Muan Doja Small Artisan Specialized Support Center, 5 Years of Continuous Project Implementation

The Muan Ceramic Small Business Specialized Support Center at Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 18th that it held the "2024 Project Briefing Session" on the 17th from 11 a.m. at the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the External Cooperation Building at Mokpo National University.

This event was held to explain the "Muan Ceramic Small Business Specialized Support Center" project, which has been selected as a continuous project for five consecutive years and will run until the end of January next year, with the purpose of supporting local ceramic small business owners.

Since its establishment in September 2020, the Muan Ceramic Small Business Specialized Support Center has actively supported the growth of ceramic small business owners located in Muan County.

The center aims to enhance the competitiveness of the local ceramic industry and revitalize the regional economy through customized commercialization support and technological pioneering for related companies in the local ceramic industry.

In particular, the center seeks to grow the ceramic industry through the development of regionally specialized products, innovation in production technology, and strengthening global competitiveness.

Professor Cho Young-seok (College of Business Administration), director of the Muan Ceramic Small Business Specialized Support Center, stated, "Mokpo National University has allocated 250 million KRW in national funds for this project and plans to support ceramic small business owners with up to 7 million KRW per company," adding, "Support will be expanded not only to Cheonggye-myeon but also to ceramic companies in neighboring areas."

He further added, "Through this, we expect to contribute to the regional economy by advancing the local ceramic industry and discovering unique business items, thereby injecting new vitality into the ceramic industry of Jeonnam."

Meanwhile, Muan County has formed the "nation's largest household ceramic cluster" with 75 ceramic companies concentrated mainly in the Cheonggye Industrial Complex. Recognizing this characteristic, it was designated as the "Muan Ceramic Complex Industrial Zone" in November last year, and greater development is anticipated.

In particular, strengthening the connection between government, industry, and academia to expand support to all ceramic companies in Muan County and creating an environment where new entrepreneurs can gather is important. Mokpo National University's analysis and support of the industrial ecosystem are expected to play a significant role in the development of the Muan ceramic industry.

Meanwhile, the "Small Business Specialized Support Center" is a project led and implemented by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. As of March 2024, 38 centers are operating nationwide, and the "Muan Ceramic Small Business Specialized Support Center" is the only one in Jeonnam, established within the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Mokpo National University.
