The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that at 9:25 a.m. on the 18th, a KTX-Sancheon train was struck and derailed by a Mugunghwa train being transferred within the Seoul Station premises on the Gyeongbu Line while waiting to depart. The transfer refers to operating a train to a specific station or vehicle depot without carrying passengers or cargo.
The Ministry stated, "As a result of this accident, four minor injuries occurred. Passengers waiting for the Mugunghwa train and those aboard the KTX-Sancheon transferred to substitute trains, resulting in delays of 34 minutes and 25 minutes respectively. Additional damages and delays to subsequent trains are currently being assessed."
Minister Park Sang-woo of the Ministry said, "We have immediately deployed the Railway Disaster Response Team, composed of the Director of Railways, Railway Safety Policy Officer, Railway Safety Inspector, Railway Special Judicial Police (affiliated agency), Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (affiliated agency), and Korea Transportation Safety Authority (subsidiary agency), to the site to do our utmost in managing the accident."
