New Director of the National Theater Company: Park Jeonghee, Head of Theater Company 'Punggyeong'

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 18th that Park Jeonghee has been appointed as the director and artistic director of the National Theater Foundation and has been presented with the appointment letter.


Park, the newly appointed artistic director, will serve a three-year term from today until April 17, 2027.

Park Jeonghee, the new artistic director, has been leading the theater company 'Punggyeong' as a theater director since 2001. She has opened new horizons in the theater world by directing highly artistic works such as 'Cello,' which won the directing award at the 2008 Seoul Theater Festival, as well as 'The Maids' and 'Lee Youngnyeo.' She holds a bachelor's degree in Korean literature from Catholic University, a master's degree in German literature from Korea University, and studied Theater, Film, and Media Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany from 1988 to 1994.


Yoo Inchon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "As the representative theater company of our country, the National Theater will create and produce experimental, artistic, and large-scale diverse theatrical works that are difficult for the private sector to produce," and added, "We expect the new artistic director to communicate smoothly with the theater community on the ground and lead the National Theater’s new leap forward as it relocates to Namsan."
