8 Years of Publishing the 'Lost and Found Index'
"Many Unique Items Appear Every Year"
The world's largest ride-sharing taxi platform, Uber, compiles and publishes lost item data from taxis every year. Since it is a service operating worldwide, the items passengers forget and leave behind are often quite extraordinary.
On the 17th (local time), Uber released its annual Lost and Found Index on its official website. The Lost and Found Index is a table that aggregates lost items found inside Uber taxis, and it has gained cult popularity, being published for the eighth consecutive year.
Uber stated, "Most lost items were clothing, mobile phones, wallets, jewelry, cameras, books, laptops, and tobacco products," but also explained, "There were many unique items among the things passengers lost."
Examples of these "unique items" mentioned by Uber include wigs. Someone left behind hot sauce, and even a breathalyzer was found on a taxi seat.
There were also items whose purpose was unclear. One passenger contacted an Uber driver saying they lost a "leaf," and another left behind a box containing spiders. Other items included a container full of oysters, a blanket printed with a photo of a pet dog, fake teeth, a prop modeled after a rat skeleton, a candle inscribed with the phrase "See you in court," and a container holding surgical implants.
Additionally, there were reports of DNA paternity test kits, scripts from famous stages, a live pet turtle, a framed autograph of American pop star Taylor Swift, a WWE championship belt from American professional wrestling, and a fox tail, among many other bizarre lost items.
Some passengers also left behind food items, including a blueberry pie, garlic-flavored butter, and a tray of meat pies. One particularly forgetful passenger reported leaving "underwear, bread, ham, and mayonnaise" inside the taxi.
