Gwangsan Fire Station in Gwangju Metropolitan City promoted the use of evacuation facilities in apartment complexes on the 18th to minimize casualties in the event of a fire.
Evacuation facilities in apartment complexes include ▲‘lightweight partition walls’ that allow evacuation to neighboring units through balconies ▲‘evacuation refuge spaces’ temporarily designated for shelter during a fire.
The lightweight partition walls are thin panel structures installed on apartment balconies that can be easily broken to evacuate. In case of fire, residents can break the partition walls using tools such as hammers or their bodies to escape to neighboring units.
The evacuation refuge spaces have fire-rated doors and provide an area of at least 2㎡ where residents can evacuate during a fire. Evacuation can be carried out using devices such as safety descenders or downward evacuation routes. It is important to ensure that these evacuation facilities are kept clear of stored items that could obstruct evacuation during a fire.
Moon Hyung-chae, Head of the Prevention and Safety Division, said, “We hope that residents pay attention to the evacuation facilities installed in their homes and familiarize themselves with evacuation methods to protect the safety of their families.”
