Lim Ji-seon, CEO of Bohae Brewery, Receives Commendation from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries

Bohae Brewery was recognized as an advanced case for promoting the consumption of seafood products by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative to develop kelp soju.

Wando County, which produces the largest amount of seafood such as seaweed in Korea and is leading the future marine industry, was selected as the host site for the 13th Fisheries Day event organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries after a call for candidate sites, on-site investigation, and a selection committee review last year.

Geumil-eup in Wando County is famous as the top-quality kelp production area in Korea, with optimal conditions for kelp farming such as sunlight and wind, accounting for 70% of the nation’s kelp production.

As a representative company of Gwangju and Jeonnam, Bohae Brewery has been collaborating with Wando County and Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative since February last year to develop a soju recipe using the region’s unique characteristics and high-quality kelp. Additionally, on the 2nd, Bohae Brewery held a business agreement ceremony with Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative to cooperate on networking, promotion, and marketing for the market establishment of the kelp soju brand, as well as to contribute to promoting seafood consumption and revitalizing the seaweed market.

The kelp soju, introduced by Bohae Brewery as the world’s first, is significant not only for expanding the utilization of seaweed seafood products but also for attracting consumer interest by introducing a unique product, thereby positively impacting the local economy.

A Bohae Brewery official said on the 18th, “Following Bohae Soju, Bohae’s flagship product that controls bitterness with Sinan topan salt, a representative specialty of Jeonnam, we are pleased to introduce soju that embodies the umami of clean Wando kelp.” He added, “Bohae will continue to develop products using local specialties to contribute to regional coexistence and economic revitalization.”
