Seo Jeong-wook, Deputy Mayor for Administration, Visits Four Regional Emergency Medical Centers
Checks Emergency Treatment and Prepares Supplementary Measures Including Patient Transfer Situations
Ulsan City is set to inspect the emergency medical cooperation status between Ulsan University Hospital and regional emergency medical centers as the healthcare crisis caused by collective action of doctors prolongs.
On the 18th, Seo Jeong-wook, the Deputy Mayor of Ulsan, will begin on-site inspections of emergency medical cooperation by sequentially visiting regional emergency medical centers including Jungang Hospital, Ulsan Hospital, Ulsan City Hospital, and Donggang Hospital, the city announced.
On this day, they will closely examine patient transfer and treatment situations, listen to difficulties in emergency medical care, and seek measures to strengthen the region’s emergency medical response capabilities.
Deputy Mayor Seo Jeong-wook stated, “Despite the prolonged healthcare crisis, the emergency medical cooperation system is operating smoothly thanks to the active cooperation of regional emergency medical institutions,” adding, “We will carry out emergency medical measures without fail to ensure that critically ill emergency patients receive timely treatment.”
Comparing treatment situations before and after the collective action of residents, Ulsan University Hospital, a regional emergency medical center, shows an intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy rate similar to usual trends. However, the general ward occupancy rate decreased by about 22% due to a reduction in outpatient and inpatient numbers.
In the case of regional emergency medical centers such as Donggang Hospital, Ulsan Hospital, Ulsan City Hospital, and Jungang Hospital, the ICU and general ward occupancy rates remain in the 80% range, indicating a situation similar to normal times.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s damage report center, in the Ulsan area, only 10 cases, or 0.4% out of a total of 2,295 complaints about medical treatment inconveniences, were reported as of the 17th.
This figure appears to reflect the effect of the emergency medical dispersion policy, where advanced general hospitals focus on critically ill emergency patients, while moderate and mild patients are transferred and transported to regional emergency medical centers and local clinics.
Additionally, to disperse the concentration of mild patients and secure response capabilities for critically ill patients, Ulsan City’s proactive response played a role by establishing a cooperative network with 12 regional emergency medical institutions including Ulsan University Hospital and Donggang Hospital, Ulsan Hospital, Jungang Hospital?designated as one of the nation’s top 100 transfer cooperation hospitals?as well as 374 fire departments and Ulsan University cooperative hospitals.
