“Let's Run and Play Excitedly in the City!”... Gangnam-gu Operates a Mobile Playground for Pets

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will operate a mobile playground for companion dogs four times starting from April 20.

The population of companion dogs in Gangnam-gu is increasing every year, with an estimated 80,000 dogs in the district, an increase of about 3,000 dogs compared to the previous year. Since 2020, considering the densely populated and traffic-heavy urban environment, the district has been operating mobile playgrounds utilizing spaces such as parks. The playgrounds, where dogs can run freely without leashes, have received great responses every year with the participation of 2,097 companion dogs and their guardians so far.

The schedule for the first half of the year is ▲April 20 at Gangnam Environment Resource Center Futsal Field (49, Heolleung-ro 745-gil) ▲April 28 at Gaepo-dong Neighborhood Park Basketball Court (509, Gaepo-ro) ▲May 7 at SETEC Parking Lot (3104, Nambusunhwan-ro) ▲May 11 at Gangnam Environment Resource Center Futsal Field.

The playground will be equipped with various agility facilities and photo zones where companion dogs can run and play. Side events include making companion dog badge ID tags and aroma insect repellents, pet etiquette education and behavior correction counseling, and a paw print stamping event for companion dogs.

The playground is open to registered medium and small dogs (under 40cm in height) and large dogs (40cm or taller) that have completed rabies vaccination since 2023. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Medium and small dogs (up to 50 dogs) can use the playground from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., while large dogs (up to 15 dogs) can use it from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Residents who wish to use the playground must make an online reservation by the day before use. Search for ‘Banham (Together with Pets)’ on the Kakao Channel, click the mobile playground application link, or scan the QR code on the poster to fill out the application form.

Before visiting, guardians must verify the exact animal registration number of their companion dog and bring a rabies vaccination certificate on the day of the event. For more details, contact the Regional Economy Division or Banham.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We plan to operate the mobile playground for companion dogs in the second half of the year as well,” adding, “We hope that these mobile playgrounds will meet the growing demand of pet-owning households and become a ‘space for coexistence’ where even those who do not own animals can understand companion dogs.”
